Nature of Work: Responsible for assisting
Detention Officers in the booking and releasing of inmates and related
duties.
Requires initiative and independent judgment, also requires good
communication skills. Will also perform related work as required or
assigned.
Typical Duties: Booking and release procedures
involving county and federal inmates. Answering of telephones and making
appointments, for inmate visitation. Photographing and fingerprinting of
inmates; examining and interpreting court orders and release documents; receipts
funds and maintains inmate accounts; monitors security cameras and operates
communications equipment, including two-way radio, and the initial assessment of
arrestees (classification process).
Knowledge Skills &
Abilities: Considerable knowledge in the
use of computers, excellent telephone skills, and the ability to follow oral and
written instructions accurately, must be reliable, responsible and capable of
working with minimum supervision. Ability to develop and maintain
effective working relationships with others.
Minimum
Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Certificate. Knowledge of governmental operations or any combination of
education, training or experience which demonstrates the potential to perform
the duties of the position.

- Annual Salary Range: $19,700 – $29,157 (16
Steps)
- A lateral Detention Support
Specialist may be hired at pay steps above entry level depending on
qualifications, training and experience, with authorization from the Sheriff and
the County Board of Supervisors
